Enhanced member portal to drive user participation

Ki Culture’s member portal struggled to engage users and support their sustainability initiatives. Difficult navigation and poor mobile accessibility frustrated members trying to contribute content or manage their profiles. These usability issues created barriers to participation and detracted from the community's goals.
To address these challenges, the portal needed a redesign that improved usability, streamlined workflows, and ensured accessibility across devices, all while adhering to the limitations of WordPress.
Process
Research & planning
I conducted interviews with internal stakeholders to identify pain points, technical constraints, and priorities. Additionally, I analyzed competitors and reviewed common UX patterns to inform the design strategy. This research provided clarity on user needs and shaped the approach to creating a more intuitive experience.
Sketching & wireframing
Using these insights, I created wireframes focused on improving navigation, simplifying content submission, and enhancing customizable profile sections. I explored multiple layout variations to highlight members’ interests in sustainability and the arts. Stakeholder feedback guided iterative refinements to ensure the designs met user needs while adhering to WordPress capabilities.
Mockups
I developed high-fidelity mockups that aligned with the portal's goals and design constraints. These mockups were shared with users and stakeholders to gather feedback and refine the designs further. The focus was on usability, visual appeal, and compatibility with WordPress.
Implementation
Once approved, the final designs were handed off to the development team. I collaborated closely with developers to address challenges during implementation, refining the design as necessary to fit technical requirements and uncover new opportunities for improvement.
