SimplyMoney: Financial Literacy for Gen Z
Hackathon
TechTogether Atlanta 2022 | 48 Hours
Highlights
Mobile App | Gamification | Financial Literacy
My role
I contributed UX/UI design for the project and expanded my skills by trying out HTML5 and CSS3 for the first time. Through this effort, I created the landing page, main menu, dictionary, and account page, along with specific elements such as the quiz and menu on the video pages. This hands-on approach allowed me to bring the design to life while supporting the development process.
Problem
Studies showed that financial literacy among Gen Z is the lowest of any generation, particularly among those from low-income households. With 40% reporting high levels of financial anxiety, the challenge was to design a tool that makes financial education accessible, engaging, and actionable.
Solution
We created SimplyMoney, a mobile app that gamifies financial education. The app includes lessons, quizzes, and rewards designed to improve users’ confidence and decision-making around money. Its simple and approachable design ensures accessibility for users with limited financial experience.
Key achievement
Awarded 1st Place - Best Financial Literacy Hack with Robinhood
GrowBliss: Supporting Mental Health for Students
Hackathon
Kurinji Hacks 2022 | 48 Hours
Highlights
Mobile App | Mental Health | Education
My role
I handled the entire UX process, from brainstorming and designing intuitive interfaces to building a high-fidelity prototype in Figma. Additionally, I coded the main page using HTML and CSS in Replit, ensuring the design translated seamlessly into a functional implementation. This hands-on approach demonstrated my ability to move from concept to execution within a tight timeframe.
Problem
High-achieving female students often neglect self-care due to academic pressures, leading to burnout and declining mental health. The challenge was to create a solution that promotes mindfulness and prioritizes self-care for students.
Solution
I designed GrowBliss, a mental wellness app that offers guided meditations, stress-reduction exercises, and a mental health information for female students.
Key achievement
Awarded Best Overall Hack for addressing mental health in education.
End-of-Life Support Solution
Hackathon
Company Hackathon 2022
Highlights
Web App | Accessibility | Emotional Design
My role
As part of a team of UX designers, I collaborated on ideation and user research to understand the needs of families and caregivers during end-of-life situations. I contributed to the creation of user flows and wireframes, prioritizing accessibility and emotional resonance in the design.
Problem
Families and patients at the end of life often struggle to access critical resources and communication tools, creating additional stress during an already difficult time.
Solution
We developed a Resource Hub with streamlined communication features to provide families and caregivers with quick access to vital information and support. The design prioritized accessibility and emotional sensitivity to meet the unique needs of this audience.
Key achievement
Secured 2nd Place in the company-wide hackathon for its innovative and empathetic approach.
